Thanks for the link.

Sorry my fault for not being more precise. I have been in touch with them. What I wanted to know was if there was anyone who had worked for them or knew them and could give a bit of an insight to how they run and good and bad points.

Pay, runs and locations of pick n drops, management, dispatchers, equipment etc etc all the usual stuff we want to know about a company.

Sorry once again but many thanks for replying.

Hello,

There is a weblog from a Dutchman that worked there, it is very informative.

McConnell is mostly doing Eastern coast, NY, NJ and sometimes FL.

This is a Youtube video from that same guy...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcmuSUR-DJI

I talked to Lee-Ann McConnell but that was almost 7 years ago... I think it's a company like lots of others, some will like it and some won't.

What I don't like is their trucks. It's real company trucks, the cheaper the better... I asked Lee Ann about being Owner Op in Canada. First thing she said was I had to understand that it's not wise buying a 140.000 dollar Peterbuilt when the work can be done with a 90.000 dollar International... She is right about that but there is also a truck somewhere in the middle, isn't there..?

McConnell now still have some Internationals 9200... The newer trucks are all Prostars and I've seen some very sober Volvo's...

I drive a 2000 Mack- a ten year old is not the quickest, especially pulling a fully freighted SuperB,but it gets the job done and has paid for it's self many times over!

Yep, like I said, she is right about it, why pay 50.000 more for a truck when you won't make any more money with it...

But, I think, to keep drivers happy, they probably like something more then the most basic truck that's offered on the market... Maybe it would be different when you offer a driver more money and a cheap truck, he'll be happy. But the same money and a cheap truck will make him look at others who have nicer trucks...

But that's just my point of view...

I agree Fland, In the 70's 80's, most companys made do with the basic truck in the UK you were lucky to get a sleeper half the time  . Then as the shortage of drivers grew they started to spec the better trucks, to atract and retain drivers :D . Sod the good old days .

In nearly 25 years on the road it has never been about what I drive. For me it is the way I get treated, what I get paid and what I have to do to earn it. Give me the oldest fleet truck to drive if I get treated properly, paid decently and can work within the law :!: :!:
I am currently driving a 2000 International 9400i

hi just as fland wrote mc connell is a company like many others out here , i know one of the dutchs guy,s who worked there 8 years he was doing fine , last year just before cristmas he quited and went to another company
they run reefer so wich means a lot of sitting and night runing but thats with every company down here who are runing reefers
from what he told me was that they really try to make it work for you ,and will help you where ever possible so that,s positive if u ask me
and i know they are recruiting right know so give it a shot i would say
talk to them and if u can afford it go pay them a visit before u deside , and when u are here go talk to some other company,s aswell and then you will know with,s company to join
that,s the best way

I tried and tried to contact the recruiter over several weeks and after aprox 15 phone calls and not able to reach him i then e mailed a covering letter, my resume, work refs, coppies of my license, police cert and all my contact details i never even got a courtesy reply (not that Canadians seem to grasp that concept!!) so chuff em!!

(not being big headed but i dont think it was just me as i got offered jobs with two other respectable companies which i have accepted one and will be on my way soon) :D

Also as Fland said why would you want to drive a wendy house for a week to ten days at a time when the guy next to you is in a decent spec motor earning the same? It aint rocket science!!!
