Hi guys
spent most evenings reading threads and have looked at web site but I am info'd out.
as a ball park figure how long would you say the average time is from applying for a job to starting.
I have a lot to do and need to get the house finished to max the selling price. which would maen a small morgage in canada.

are the big companies flexable eg if you get a job offer will they keep it open if you are not quite ready to move it is important that i move with my family.

or should i get house sold and rent before applying to any company at the risk of loseing the chance.

This is a done thing in my house and the family are well up for it and it will be a one way move no ties in uk to be home sick about and make the best of whatever canada can throw at us : :D

I applied in mid November and started mid January. That was 4 years ago though and things may have changed but I should think 3 months would be a fair guess. The WP doesn't actually start until you land, so you can fix things to suit you, too.

My own personal recommendation, though, is that you come out about a month before your family join you. That way you can get the test and other odds and ends out of the way without distractions.

When I applied with Big Freight Systems I was expecting the whole process to be rather slow. I went to the interview and was offered the job. Filled out the paperwork and the TWP came through in about two weeks.

It was so quick I was taken unawares and couldn't go. They were good and waited a while but then put a date on coming over which I couldn't make so had to cancel. They did say that when I was ready in the future to re apply though.

thanks for the reply english trucker that time scale could be a night mare for me i think the way ahead is try and get an interview when the house is ready for the market. 3 months shortest time.

could i pay the morgage from canada whilst the family were waiting to sell if i came over before them :?:

The best option Tony is to get most of your loose ends tied up first. Then when you are ready to sell go for the interview. If you are offered the job I reckon you would be looking at about 3 months to get everything sorted. This should be enough time for you to sell up. They shouldn't have a problem waiting once they know your house is on the market they all know it takes time for you to sort things out.
